I’m Passionate about Domestic Violence

LSS CHOICES

Kitchen Volunteers

Small groups and individuals volunteering in the kitchen assist with meal preparation, serving and clean up.  Volunteers serve during breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.  All volunteers must be 18 years old and attend an orientation session.

We strive to provide nourishing and comforting meals to our residents while they are living in their temporary home.  Meals provided and served with love by community groups help us to reach this goal while also allowing us to divert resources to services and programming for residents and their families. If you are interested in providing a meal at CHOICES, please see our guidelines below.

Meal Provider Guidelines

Donation Center Volunteers

Volunteer groups are needed to assist in the CHOICES donation center processing and sorting donations for use in the shelter.  The donation center is located off site from the CHOICES shelter at 217 N. Grant Avenue in Columbus (our Faith Mission location).  Groups of up to 10 volunteers can serve together in the donation center.  Volunteer shifts are available Monday through Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.  All volunteers must be 14 and older with a responsible adult.

Shelter Assistant Volunteers

Shelter Assistant volunteers provide support to shelter advocates by meeting immediate needs of families and residents.  Volunteers assist with laundry and light cleaning, organizing and distributing donated items, and providing general assistance to residents. Volunteer opportunities are available daily in the evening.  All volunteers must be 18 years old, complete a background check, and attend orientation and training sessions.

Childcare Volunteers

Many of the residents in shelter are children escaping an abuser with their parent.  CHOICES provides areas for babies and toddlers, school aged children, and teens to play and grow. Childcare volunteers support the childcare team by engaging youth of all ages in activities and assisting with light cleaning of childcare area.  Volunteer opportunities are available on weekdays.  All volunteers must be 18 years old, complete a background check and interview with our childcare staff, and attend orientation and training sessions.
