“I always feel thankful for what I have after a day of volunteering.”-LSS Faith Mission Volunteer Lauren
When you walk through the doors of LSS Faith Mission as a volunteer, you’re stepping into a place full of stories, resilience, and hope. Every shift is different, but one thing is always the same: you will leave knowing you’ve made a real difference.
Every hour you spend, every meal you help serve and every kind word you share contributes to creating a safe and supportive environment for people experiencing homelessness.
If you’re considering becoming a volunteer, here’s what you can expect – and why your time matters.
- Warm Welcomes and Real Connections
Volunteering to feed people experiencing homelessness isn’t just about tasks – it’s about people. You’ll meet shelter staff, fellow volunteers and clients who each have unique stories and experiences. Sometimes, simply listening can be just as impactful as serving a meal.
- Training and Support
You don’t need special skills or experience to volunteer. We provide training and guidance so you feel confident and prepared. Staff members are always available to answer questions and offer support.
“The staff at LSS are amazing and very welcoming,” says Josh, another volunteer. “LSS is my favorite place to volunteer!”
Feeding Those in Need
Faith Mission provides hot, nutritious meals for each of our residents, every day of the year. As a kitchen volunteer, you will help with plating food alongside other volunteers. As residents arrive, you greet them with a smile, hand over a tray, and maybe share a few kind words. For some, that small moment of connection is the warmest part of their day.
Kitchen volunteers also help by cleaning the kitchen and dining area after meals. Your effort helps create a safe, welcoming place where healing and new beginnings are possible.
“Volunteering allows me to put a smile in clients’ hearts, and they place a smile in mine,” says a volunteer named Kate. “We are there for each other.”
Why It Matters
Volunteering at a homeless shelter like Faith Mission isn’t just about meals and work. It’s about offering dignity, connection and hope.
Along the way, you’ll likely discover that you gain something too: a deeper sense of empathy, new friendships, and the joy that comes from giving your time to others.
“My heart feels full after every volunteer experience with LSS and Faith Mission,” says Jean who volunteers with us. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to help those in our area that need it!”
