At Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio (LSS), our mission is to create a better world by serving people in need. For more than a century, we have adapted and evolved to meet the most pressing challenges facing our community—and today is no different.
As part of our long-term strategy to meet our community’s most critical needs in a quality, sustainable manner, LSS will be selling our skilled nursing facility, The Good Shepherd, and two senior living communities, Kensington Place and Lutheran Village, to a respected provider, Medical Facilities of America. This organization offers deep expertise in senior care and has the capacity to invest in these facilities for the future.
This is a proactive and strategic decision made from a position of stability and strength. We recognize the changing landscape of human services—particularly the lack of sustainable funding for homeless and domestic violence shelters and the volatility of government grants—and we are acting now to ensure we can continue meeting our community’s most critical needs. By streamlining our portfolio, we are focusing on where LSS can have the greatest impact: addressing homelessness, domestic violence, community health, food insecurity and affordable housing.
We understand the risks of inaction in today’s environment. Funding instability, rising costs and shifting priorities require nonprofits to be agile and intentional. Through this transition, LSS is positioning itself for long-term success, with a goal of having stronger financial margins, sustainable reserves and the flexibility to reinvest in programming, infrastructure and talent – all of which is necessary to serve our clients and community.
Our commitment to Central Ohio remains unwavering. The individuals and families we serve depend on LSS for basic needs—and we are taking deliberate steps to ensure that we can continue to provide shelter, food, safety and healing.
We are grateful for the trust, partnership and collaboration of our supporters and the community. Together, we can continue to build a stronger, more resilient Central Ohio—one that ensures every person has the opportunity to live in safety, dignity and hope.
