Community Study on Domestic Violence

Creating a Safe Haven for Victims and Families

With the support of the Franklin County Commissioners, we conducted a community-wide study to identify the gaps in the system for domestic violence victims – where we, as a community, could do better for those who need our help the most.

The goals of the study were to analyze the availability of services for survivors, identify gaps in the delivery system, and project future demands for services in central Ohio.

Key research finding –

  • The study predicts a 38-43 percent increase in women who will be impacted by intimate partner violence by 2040. This will especially impact non-white women as our minority and immigrant populations grow. By 2040, it is estimated that nearly 70,000 Franklin County women will experience intimate partner violence each year.

Key needs that were identified:

      • Increasing collaboration among partners
      • Empowering survivors to meet their basic needs
      • Providing culturally competent care
      • Enhancing legal services
      • Ensuring all survivors have equal access

Currently we are forming workgroups comprised of local organizations and experts who are coming together to find solutions to meet these needs.
